The Nomad
This is one of the most famous and successful lures of all time. The original pattern was designed and fished by the Nomad fly fishing team based out of the Midlands. Using this fly the team won most of the major still water competitions and consequently was kept on the 'secret list' for many years.
This lure has all the right ingredients for catching trout, plenty of movement in the marabou tail, a bit of weight in the gold bead to give the fly even more action in the water, a bit of flash and also a bit of brightness in the 'nose' of the fly.
The position of the gold bead on the hook gives this fly a lovely dipping and diving action in the water, and that weight within the fly also means its ideal to fish on any line. Fishing this fly on a floating line gives you the option to fish it high in the water or to let it sink and keep it a bit deeper with a slow retrieve. White with a fluoro yellow/green nose and black with fluoro yellow/green nose are probably the best two colours for this time of year.
