The weather has been quite mixed again this week. We had sunshine and very light winds at the beginning of the week leading on to a drop in the temperature again towards the end of the week and even slow and quite frosty conditions through the weekend. This didn’t put the anglers off and Sat saw a full turnout on the lake with rods bent all over.
Jim Armstrong from Maghaberry enjoyed the pleasant weather at the beginning of the week catching and landing 22 fish to buzzers on a floating line with the slowest of figure eight retrieves. Jim pictured here with a nice fish just over 3lb, which was returned to fight another day.
Young Curtis McDonald (pictured right) is progressing well at the fishing and had another good day out including this nice fish at around the 2-3lb mark.
From the catch reports we have noticed that a variety of flies are catching fish at the minute, although Cats Whiskers, Pinkies, White Nomads and Millenium Bugs are working particularly well. Floating and Intermediate lines are working best as even though it is still quite chilly the fish arent deep down at all.
Pictured below are the guys from the NACCO forklift truck factory in Portadown who held their annual flyfishing competition at Brookhall Trout Fishery. The winner of this year’s trophy had a bag of 18 fish, with second place taking 13 fish and 3rd place a respectable 10 fish.
