Brookhall Fishery Report-Week Ending 17th January 2010
(January 17, 2010)Well, what a month for weather ! We were doing well with keeping the ice at bay, breaking it up each day and running the aerators was helping as well but finally one night it caught up with us, the combination of plummeting temperatures and no wind was just too much. We left the fishery ice free one evening and by the next morning some parts of it had three inches of ice on the surface, finally we had to admit defeat. Thankfully though the lake is now ICE-FREE and open for fishing.
Brookhall regular Liam Burns had a good day out, eager to get fishing after the enforced break Liam had several fish the best being a Rainbow of 5lbs 2ozs. Another regular Paddy Timoney also enjoyed a good days fishing, Paddy was fishing small buzzer patterns and his best fish was a Rainbow of 3lb 15ozsJanuary saw a visit from The Cranfield Casters for another round of their winter league, Heavy snow and 3 weeks of sub zero temperatures postponed the competiton for 2 weeks, but when they got to Brookhall Fishery everyone was on a high. The fish had enjoyed a break and hadn't seen a fly for 3 weeks so fishing was expected to be
easy. Quite the opposite, fishing was hard to begin with, although the air temperature was up a bit it will take a while for the water temperature to rise as well. The fish were proving hard to find for the anglers, floating and intermediate lines were being used and every fly in their boxes were getting wet. At the break it was still anybody's, Alan was on 3 fish, Tom, Russell and Norman on 2 and Robert and Lee on zero. After the break things picked up a bit, for some. Alan and Tom got into a great competition with each other with one landing a fish quickly followed by the other. The same was happening with Norman and Russell going fish for fish with each other but on a slower pace.
