Brookhall Fishery Report - Week Ending 22nd November 2009 (
November 22, 2009)
Hold on to your hats, what a week, the weather has been horrible.
Friday was the kindest of the days and at some points the sun even made an appearance and it turned out to be a good day for catching fish. Michael Brown had his best ever day with 10 fish caught on a damsel nymph. George Edwards didn’t manage to fall in but did manage to catch his 4 fish bag with a few caught and lost just at the net on an olive nomad. Drew Black and Raymond Shaw from Belfast had a good day also. Raymond catching on a Hares Ear and Drew on a pheasant tail nymph. I managed to get an hours fishing in myself and had 7 fish on a black and green buzzer, and a bloodworm. Sam Roy braved the elements on Saturday morning, He did get a bit of shelter at the top of the lake which made casting a little easier. Sam was rewarded with a lovely steelhead of around 7 to 8lbs, they have been seen cruising around the lake this year but not many have been caught.

Twenty-seven anglers turned out for the competition held at Brookhall Trout Fishery today despite strong winds and a forecast of rain for later in the day. Two of Brookhall’s regulars, Sean Morgan and Davy Marley got off to a flying start, both bagging up on their first peg and both of them catching limits of good fish. Linda Straghan completed her bag limit before lunch with a double hook-up, landing both fish, and with Linda also having a few decent fish this put her up amongst it
The lake was fishing well during the morning session, rods seemed to be constantly bent and there were a number of anglers had hit their five fish limit by the lunch break. It was looking good for a few anglers according to the lunchtime banter with Sean and Davy, Harry McAteer Jnr and James Douglas all having decent bags according to the guesswork that was going on. After stomachs were filled with soup, sandwiches and tea it was back out for the afternoon session.
Dougie Dunlop was another angler to catch his limit of five decent fish and put himself in the running. The last hour came and a lot of anglers had bagged up by now, some fished on and some decided to retire to the warmth of the lodges and have a hot cuppa. One angler still waiting for his fifth fish was Brian Kerr, this is unusual for Brian as he normally catches well at Brookhall, maybe he had a game plan? With about half an hour to go he caught his fifth and final fish. Finally time was
called and not a moment too soon, the rain had just started, the temperature was dropping and everyone headed back for a well-earned cuppa while the results were being calculated.
The results were announced and 27 anglers had caught 115 fish, a rod average of 4.25, good fishing for this time of year.
Patience had paid off for Brian Kerr, he took first place with five good fish for 7.01kg, in close second place was Sean Morgan with his five early fish for 6.85kg. Third place went to Davy Marley with 5 fish for 6.45kg.
Junior angler Curtis McDonald, the youngest entrant of the day being presented with a C&R ticket, Leader and a box of flies from Brookhall Fishery and its regulars.
We would like to thank everyone for their support in attending today’s competition, hopefully you all enjoyed the day despite the weather.
