Things were looking gloomy weather wise this week with forecasts of high winds and heavy rain.
Fortunately, apart from a bit of rain on Thursday, the forecasters got it wrong and the bad weather never arrived. Most days this week, were settled with some sunshine although you can definitely feel the winter cold on its way. Fishing has been good with plenty of fish being caught all week, the water in the lake is still very clear and there are still fish taking at the surface. Noel from Belfast had a good day on Saturday catching 12 fish with all of these fish being taken on dry flies, mainly CDC’s.
Sunday saw 12 year old junior angler Curtis McDonald (above), out on only his third ever fly fishing session, enjoying a good days fishing. Curtis is already casting nicely and he managed two nice fish of 2.5 and 3lb and caught them using a Conehead White Fritz on a floating line, good angling Curtis!
Sunday was also the first round of the Cranfield Casters Angling Club Winter League. The weather was kind to the anglers with light winds and even a bit of sunshine to take the chill off the air.
McBride and Lee Mathews both catching 7 fish. Thomas McCartney had 6 fish, Alan Graham 4 fish, Robert Graham 2 fish and Davy McAlpine 1 fish.
