On Saturday 12th September Brookhall Trout Fishery held a competition to raise funds for Casting for Recovery. Casting for Recovery is a non-profit, support and educational programme for women who have or have had breast cancer. 15 anglers turned out for the competition, the entry fee for each angler was to raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship although most anglers surpassed this sum by some margin, a special mention must go to Davy Marley who managed to raise an outstanding £1200. The competition started at 5pm and it quickly turned into a three horse race with three of the Brookhall regulars Brian Fleming, Ray Carling and Ryan Crothers all catching quickly and consistently but most anglers seemed to have rods bent at some point.
The winners of the raffle was also drawn after the competition and over 50 prizes were given out including rods, reels, tackle vouchers, fly selections, boxes, bags, dinner vouchers and tons more.
phenomenal sport as the sun drops down a bit. CDC’s, shipmans, klinkhammers and even daddy longlegs imitations h ave all been taking numbers of fish.
Towards the end of the competition it was getting tighter with Ray stuck on 7 fish and Brian and Ryan going past that and battling it out between them seemingly going fish for fish. The competition finished when it finally got too dark to fish and it was unclear who had won with Ryan and Brian both keeping quiet about their final tally. At the weigh in it turned out that they both finished joint first place with 11 fish, they agreed between them that the toss of a coin was a fair way to decide the winner and Ryan came out on top giving him first place (pictured above) and
winning a full fly outfit consisting of rod, reel, line and backing. In second place Brian Flemming (pictured right) won a rod, reel and line and third place went to Ray Carling (pictured below) who won rod and tackle bag.
