Brookhall Fishery Report - Week Ending 19th July 09

(July 19, 2009)
Fishing has continued to be excellent despite the varied weather this week with most of the fish caught in the top few feet of water. Everyone on fish tickets managed to Ciaran1 get their fish despite the strong periods of sunshine one minute and heavy out burst of rain the next. It continues to be that no single tactic seems to be bringing greater success - floating, intermediate and even sinking lines have been used by anglers with lures, nymphs and buzzers all productive.  CDC flies have been very successful during better spells of weather and dries including small Daddies, Shipmans and Klinkhammers have all worked well.  Top flies this
week were black or red buzzers, Diawl Bach (Red Holo), shipmans and dries.

During the week Bob Mackey from Hills borough had a cracking days fishing catching his 5 fish bag limit before returning 13 using buzzers on a floating line.

Tony King and Gareth King from Portadown had great success with klinkhammers and comp9black gnats while Stephen Davidson had an impressive catch of 23 on Cormorants and buzzers. William Boyes from Maghaberry had 14 to a size 16 Black CDC pattern.

Sunday saw Ciaran Mellon (top right) from Cookstown land an impressive 9 fish in a few hours mainly on size 12 black nymphs and Spiders on an intermediate line with a slow retrieve.

Star of the show on Sunday had to be 16 year old Ryan Crothers who’s rod seemed to be bent every cast. Ryan landed 29 fish on a floating line fished almost static. Ryan to ok 25 on a red buzzer which he tied up himself and one the fish certainly liked. His Ryan2other 4 fish fell to a suspended buzzer. Well done Ryan!

Marie Carberry from Belfast has taken to the fishing like a duck to water catching 6 while Stuart McAllister landed 8 and his brother Lee had 10.

We plan to hold a raffle to raise money for Casting for Recovery. Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland is a non-profit, support and educational program for women who have or have had breast cancer.

At present we are gathering raffle prizes and if you think you could donate a prize no matter how small then please let us know. Prizes do not need to be fishing related, it all helps the ladies who have been unfortunate in having breast cancer. Help us to help them. Further information on casting for recovery can be found at www.castingforrecovery.org.uk
