Brookhall Fishery Report - Week Ending 12th July 2009 (
July 14, 2009)
The weather has been changeable this week varying from strong sunshine one minute to short outbursts of heavy rain the next. The welcome cloud cover at times brought the fish to the surface and meant those anglers who chose to fish dries were particularly rewarded.
On Saturday John Wyman from Lisburn had over 20 fish to daddies. Jim Armstrong had another great session as well landing over 18 to dries. Jim’s biggest fish weighed in at just over 8lb.
Jonathon Johnston from Temple had 23 fish on Daddies and Shipman’s on his first visit to Brookhall.
Some of the Anglers who took part on Sundays Competition
Brookhall Fishery held a 5 fish competition and barbecue on Sunday 12th July. The competition took place from 10am till 3pm and was a great success with 21 anglers taking part. The first fish of the day went to birthday girl Marie Carberry who was already on a double celebration after getting engaged to Brookhall regular Stuart McAllister the previous day. As Marie netted her fish young Ryan Crothers hooked into his first fish and before long there were quite a few rods bending.

The weather prediction was to be wet and slightly windy but thankfully the rain and strong winds stayed away. The strong sunshine at times put the fish deeper and anglers on lures and those who fished buzzers static on long leaders were rewarded and a few anglers managed to bag up in the first few hours. The cloud cover at times brought bigger fish to the surface. There were a few fish caught on the dries with Shipman’s proving to be the best for that method. The competition ended with 9 anglers reaching their bag limit and only a few failing to catch.
It was a great day and following the competition the anglers were rewarded with a barbecue and thankfully the weather for it was warm and sunny. After the weigh-in the winners were announced and the prizes were presented. First prize of £100 and the Trophy went to James Douglas (above left)with a bag weight of 13lb 15oz.
Second place went to Brookhall regular Ryan Crothers. Ryan (above right), beaten by the slimmest of margins with a bag weight of 13lb 14oz won £70. With his prize money Ryan intends on buying a second rod. Third place went to Paul Maginness (below). Paul won £30 with his bag weight of 12lb 1oz. Congratulations to all the winners.
